Our last match of the season is in the books. The weather for our Fall Steel Challenge looked
threatening, but sunlight broke through just in time for the shooters meeting and played hide and
seek for the rest of the day. Before the match began, Jim Zimmerman from Selway Armory
conducted the long-awaited drawings for the setup crew gift certificates. Vic Fink, Shawn
Stinton, and Nate Martin won the $25, $50, and $200 certificates, respectively. Selway Armory
and 323 Construction joined forces to recognize the great people who work hard to construct our
match stages.
Special thanks go to Brian Craft who fabricated our Steel Challenge targets and holders, based
on recommendations from Mike Shapiro and Lee Bergman. The new targets were almost too
beautiful to shoot with precision construction and a white powder coating (who are we trying to
fool, we shot the heck out of them). The new design resulted in a loud, clear ring when the
targets were hit, and was noticeably quiet when I was shooting.
A default setting on the scoring tablets caused them to not display the worst string for each
shooter, although the correct scores and standings were generated on the master iPad. So while
the posting of the final results was delayed, rest assured that they do reflect the correct times with
the worst strings discarded and the 30 second maximum string times per the SCSA rules.
The charity poker draw was conducted again to benefit the Salt Lake Practical Shooters
Association. The SLPSA facilities were burglarized and their timers, chronograph, staplers and
other tools were stolen. The poker and additional donations will result in $88 going to help the
club.
Thanks to everyone for making 2015 one of our best seasons!
